Cave Nebula by Ov3RMinD Cave Nebula by Ov3RMinD
This is the third nebula I started with kind of a new technique. I always approached the nebula-painting from two directions: Use of textures and textured brushes (Starlit Sky Series [link] ) and the pure round-soft-brush paintings (for example Break Through [link] ).

In my newer work I tried to combine both techniques into one. The biggest difference is that I use much more custom brushes without neglecting the pure painting. I try to combine the randomness of custombrushes with the precise work of a default-brush. Worked out pretty well if you ask me. At least I'm satisfied.

Comments & Critique much appreciated as always.

More to come...

Edit: Uploaded a sharper image.

Simply amazing! Did you just use photoshop or did you use any other programs for this? How long did it take you to do this?

Only Photoshop. Can't really remember how long it took. Maybe 10-15 hours.

They are painted with a soft round brush. I start with a bigger size (~20 px) and slowly reduce it down to 1 px to do the details.

Much greater depth, yes. A little selective sharpening might add to it as well. :)

Actually the original is a bit sharper. I think it's the deviantArt-scaling that reduced the sharpness a little.

Oh yes, that would blur it a little. When I downsize, I usually do it in photoshop, and apply sharpening if needed.

Your new technique is working wonders. You're able to add so much more of the complexity without over-doing it. Nice man, this is working out very well. :)

That's what I was aiming for. It would take ages to get this level of detail with using a soft round brush only.

It's the fault of the deviantArt resize image function. I now uploaded another version I resized in PS. Much sharper now.
