Reach the Stars by Ov3RMinD Reach the Stars by Ov3RMinD
Second nebula piece painted with my tablet. I really like how it finally turned out.
Took about 3 hours. Damn I love this tablet.. it rocks.
And everyone who says this would not look realistic, has no idea whats out there. ;)

Every support is appreciated.

- changed lighting
- added some details
- added some small stars
- more background details

Wow! This is one of the most inspiring works of space art I've seen! I was wondering, does this object actually exist and where could I find it?

Iiiiiii have no idea what this is, but it's certainly the most epically wonderful thing I've ever seen.

Beautiful dusty nebula :) the colors are very peaceful and tasty, like hanging out in the depths of the ocean.

Great colors, and a nice feel. Reminds me of some of those Hubble photos of similar nebulae.

I think my only nitpicks are maybe adding a few more stars, and perhaps pushing some variations of blues and purples into the nebula. Right now the brighter purples seem very closely fitted around the stars, while I think stars would usually carry more of a reddish/gold glow, while the purples would spread out a little more across the nebula itself.

However, I see this as a sort of...stylization...of a nebula, with a preference to these two colors. It's still very beautiful, and very soothing, and works with those two colors. And these two are among my very favorite colors, so it's kind of hard to find anything wrong with it besides the number of stars. ;)

Absolutely, stunningly, astonishingly, smesxily, new slider-cingular phone -ily, beautiful.

How the HELL DID YOU DO THAT GRADIENT???? All of those gradients! I can't get mine to look half that good!!

Mind if I try to dupe this?
liathnue Featured By Owner Oct 16, 2006
Very cool! I think you should put some more stars in it though.

Would it be possible if you could, like, maybe take some time and teach me how to do this? I have a tablet that I just purchased, but I don't know how to make stuff like this and I REALLY REALLY want to learn. Would you mind?

I thought about the Eagle Nebula when I was painting this :)
tainted-heart278 Featured By Owner Jan 20, 2006
It is like a blue version of the Eagle Nebula. Only with different pillar structure.

Huzzah for hydrogen gas & dust!

Shit man, that's amazing!! Call me picky, but I think it could benefit from having more stars!! Also, despite what jagged-r0cks thinks, I quite like the halo around the stars!! :D

This is simply one of the most amazing piece i've seen in a loooooong while...I'm in awe!
tibro Featured By Owner Jun 3, 2005   Digital Artist
i love the composition and colours used, to make the piece feel almost like a dream. the very soft strokes and brushes used really give it an amazing affect. not certain on some of the smaller stars, but i like the big ones, gives it almost a multi focal point. once your eyes start to wonder you start picking up on some of the smaller details which is nice to see. could perhaps see a little bit more variation in the background, but this is still a very nice piece

well done

I would love to learn brushing styles and technique from you, the whole thing just have a smooth soft feeling to it that is so different from so much other work out there. Really love it.
Halcyonica Featured By Owner Mar 14, 2005  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Wow great work!,
I love the colours used and your brush work is great too, there is an eerie atmosphere to it, that I find cool, my only crit is that it may need a bunch of more stars in it.
jagged-r0cks Featured By Owner Mar 14, 2005
im not sure if you did, but my mind tells me you used the universe creator lens flare for the stars. That, in itself, is no big deal and is as much as a sin, and as easy to do as using a brish to make stars (which isnt a sin at all) . (really im not telling you thats a bad thing). BUT- please, and PLEASE, take the circle off of the stars. There is an option to do that, and, although it may look o.k., it hurts my eyes to see it. It just kinda looks more blatantly obvious that way.

I too, use the lens flare sometimes.

Great job though.
Ov3RMinD Featured By Owner Mar 15, 2005  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I used ONLY Photoshop 7 for the whole piece.
